Special interests: Dermatopathology, including
melanocytic pathology and inflammatory conditions of the skin,
haematopathology - lymphoma diagnosis, gynaecological pathology and
cytopathology
Dr Oana Crainic graduated from medicine at the University of
Medicine and Pharmacy Iuliu Hatieganu, Cluj Napoca, Romania. After
spending eight years in clinical medicine, including dermatology,
in both Romania and New Zealand, she completed her postgraduate
training in anatomical pathology in Christchurch, New Zealand, and
the Melanoma Institute of Australia. She obtained Fellowship from
the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2013. Dr
Crainic developed a special interest in dermatopathology with
emphasis in melanocytic pathology and completed a Fellowship at the
Melanoma Institute of Australia. She was a Staff Specialist in the
Department of Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology at Royal
Prince Alfred Hospital for two years, before joining Douglass Hanly
Moir Pathology in May, 2015. In 2016, she received International
Board Certification in Dermatopathology under the auspices of the
International Committee for Dermatopathology (ICDP/UEMS).
Dr Crainic has a broad range of interests in surgical pathology,
with special interests in dermatopathology, haematolymphoid
pathology and gynaecological pathology, as well as cytopathology.
She has expertise in biopsies for alopecia and direct
immunofluorescence. She is also involved in a variety of teaching
activities for medical students, pathology and dermatology
registrars.
